Huge trout go on rampage at Collins Lake

Article and photos by Kathy Hess, Lake Reporter
05/01/15 -- This past week was one of the biggest trout onslaughts I have seen in a while! Sam Kemp of Roseville hooked a monster 11 lb.8 oz. trout trolling with flashers and a worm just off the beach. The next day another Roseville resident, Brent Agee caught an 11 lb.9 oz. trout on a Rapala trolling in the channel approx.23′ down. Josh also trolled a Rapala and hooked a 9 lb. rainbow.

Ryan and Jen Witek from Sacramento both limited out on trout from shore by the dam on pink PowerBait.

We will continue to plant twice a week for the next three weeks. Bill and Rowland Coffman came back and tried their luck again this week with Bill’s wife Yvonne. Together they caught a limit of trout each trolling with Shasta Tackle and their biggest weighed 7 lb. 4 oz.

Rich and Linda Cassata from San Jose had two great days of trout fishing from shore, using worms or PowerBait they topped their stringer with a 4 lb. and a 3 lb.8 oz. trout. Jesse Trejo trolled with a Needlefish and caught one of the red tagged trout, which is a $100.00 prize winner!!

Jesse and Martha Castellanos from Granite Bay took home a nice stringer of 7 trout which they caught down by the dam on a Needlefish lure. The Johnson Trio (Ray, Margaret and Coco) limited out on trout from shore down by the dam on PowerBait. Joe Russo from Rio Vista hooked a 5 lb.10 oz. rainbow from the beach on PowerBait, and the next day he limited out in his favorite spot, and the biggest one weighed 3 lb. 12 oz.

Fred Libby caught a nice 3 lb.12 oz. trout on a bait spinner behind a dodger. He usually catches Bass with this setup! Chas Esposito from Antioch limits out on trout on chartreuse PowerBait by the dam.
